What belongs on a useful interview quote card?
Include an exact source-derived passage, start and end locators, speaker labels, bounded surrounding context, human-authored title and summary, defined topics, intended destinations, verification state, notes, and source fingerprint.
Separate source from interpretation
Quotation text should not share an editable field with the researcher's summary or topic vocabulary. Write the decision in plain language and retain the original source separately so the index can be audited against something outside the browser project.
Record intended reuse
A destination such as chapter outline, exhibit panel, or follow-up memo helps prevent a strong quote from becoming an orphaned bookmark. Review the result as a retrieval aid rather than a conclusion. Human-authored fields must remain visibly distinct from exact source-derived text.
Keep status descriptive
Candidate, reviewed, selected, used, and held describe workflow state; they do not determine permission or truth. Carry the limitation into the frozen edition and passive handoff so a recipient can understand what was checked, what was not checked, and what remains their responsibility.
