How much context should an interview passage include?
Store the exact selected range plus a configurable number of adjacent segments before and after, then require the reviewer to consult the full authorized source whenever fairness, ambiguity, or downstream editing demands more context.
Context is not decoration
Before-and-after text can reveal the question, qualification, correction, or change in subject that shapes interpretation. Write the decision in plain language and retain the original source separately so the index can be audited against something outside the browser project.
Keep the exact range visually distinct
Recipients should be able to tell quoted wording from surrounding material and from the indexer's summary. Review the result as a retrieval aid rather than a conclusion. Human-authored fields must remain visibly distinct from exact source-derived text.
Longer is not automatically fairer
A ten-segment window still cannot establish complete conversational, historical, cultural, or ethical context. Carry the limitation into the frozen edition and passive handoff so a recipient can understand what was checked, what was not checked, and what remains their responsibility.
