How can a documentary team organize interview selects without editing media?
Capture exact transcript ranges, label their editorial purpose and destination, keep time locators and context, check selected wording against local media, and export a passive index for the editor while leaving media and timeline edits untouched.
Do not create a hidden rough cut
A passage status and destination can support a paper edit, but the workroom should not silently rearrange words or media. Write the decision in plain language and retain the original source separately so the index can be audited against something outside the browser project.
Preserve surrounding speech
Editors need to see questions, qualifications, and nearby statements before lifting a line into a different sequence. Review the result as a retrieval aid rather than a conclusion. Human-authored fields must remain visibly distinct from exact source-derived text.
Clear use elsewhere
Production, legal, archival, participant, and broadcaster review remain separate owner workflows. Carry the limitation into the frozen edition and passive handoff so a recipient can understand what was checked, what was not checked, and what remains their responsibility.
